MERCATO

METROPOLITANO

Canary Wharf

Mercato Metropolitano are seeking to deliver their 4th site in London, building on the first installation established in 2016. The first site at Elephant and Castle became a celebration of ephemeral urbanism, set within a vibrant urban environment, where visitors are encouraged to engage with local food producers and craftspeople. The Mercato Metropolitano concept aggregates artisan bread makers, fishmongers, butchers, coffee roasters, beer makers, and pasta makers along other artisan operators who have agreed to embrace the MM core values of community building, sustainability and inclusiveness.

Social events such as food tastings, musical performances, cultural exhibitions and entertainment are also hosted on site, as are community support initiatives for residents of all ages and walks of life. This mix of arts, cultural, leisure and community engagement has been extremely well received and has had a positive impact on the local area and wider London context. In November 2019, MM launched another sustainable community market within a Grade 1-listed building in the heart of Mayfair, which has equally been received by the local community with admiration and excitement, while the Group is working on the opening of the third permanent site within the Elephant Park complex in Elephant & Castle. Once the 3rd site is open, MM would have created, directly and indirectly, over 350 permanent employment and micro-entrepreneurship opportunities.

Mercato Metropolitano are now looking to bring a neighbourhood version of these concepts to Canary Wharf, together with its core values and an array of authentic food and non-food offers.
