‘you’ is the first immersive installation artwork by British artist-jeweller Shaun Leane. It transports viewers to a reflective yet euphoric space in which they are invited to contemplate the multifaceted nature of their personalities and the echoes of this duality within nature. Designed to evoke the transcendent beauty of a starburst, the enclosed soundproof walkway has been furnished with 746 illuminated brass and oak sculptures suspended from the ceiling in a multi-height stalactite formation. The presence of a visitor fills the space with thousands of reflections amidst the polished brass knife-edge shards. The contrast between the column’s luminous surface and sandblasted oak reverse echoes the curved and sharp lines that characterize Leane’s jewellery. “you” intends to confront viewers with a new experience of their own humanity, while allowing room to consider the greater forces that shape us.
